We are happy to announce that Coda on Centre, our 172-unit multifamily building located at 5765 Centre Avenue in East Liberty has been awarded LEED Gold. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
LEED standards include sustainable design and construction elements including water-efficient fixtures (30% less water usage than baseline) and an energy-efficient building envelope. Low-emitting paints, coatings, adhesives, and floorings make for improved air quality; while recycled and regionally produced building materials and a building-wide recycling program are also incorporated.
Site selection also factored in greatly to Coda on Centre attaining it’s status. Before construction could begin, the site had to go through brownfield remediation. The site’s pedestrian-friendly proximity to grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and healthcare were also a large help.
Coda on Centre was able to achieve the credits needed for LEED Gold by implementing design, construction, and operational sustainablilty strategies through a dynamic project team including:
- WTW Architects
- CEC Engineers
- Taylor Structural Engineers
- McKim & Creed (Loftus) Engineers
- evolveEA
- Clear Story
- Rycon Construction
- Z-Tech
Oxford continues to pursue LEED certification in many of our new buildings, standing firmly by our belief that sustainable development provides our clients with a healthier and more efficient environment — to the benefit of building occupants, the environment, and the profitability of all stakeholders.
