The Vice President of Development and Construction Services reports to the Chief Executive Officer and leads the efforts of the Development Department which is responsible for complete or partial development of affiliated and 3rd party commercial real estate projects. Critical steps in these efforts include the development and implementation of project goals and objectives, and the management and execution of project process and strategy, including resource allocation, cost management, timelines, and ongoing analysis and reporting of project progress. The position is responsible for business planning and reporting (quarterly and annually) of the Development Department and the oversight and management of its staff.
The Vice President of Development & Construction Services serves as a member of Oxford’s senior staff and is critical in the strategic planning for the company’s overall sales and development goals. As a member of this leadership group, they will:
- Serve as a key participant in the development and execution of company strategies and priorities.
- Translate company strategies into actionable departmental plans and execute successful delivery of these plans.
- Oversee execution of department specific strategies and initiatives.
- Work cross-departmentally to drive execution of company strategies, initiatives, and projects.
- Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
- Challenge and inspire employees to achieve business results.
- Support CSR/ESG objectives including the integration of processes in departmental activities, promotion of these principles to employees, partners, and service providers, and reporting of related data.
- Responsibly uphold and actively promote the organization’s mission, vision, and values to align with company objectives and foster a positive organizational culture.
- Champion the development of team members to realize their full potential, cultivating leadership qualities and fostering a collaborative environment conducive to growth and excellence.
Direct reports include Project Directors and the Director of Development. In overseeing the activities of these directors and the professionals reporting to them, the position, through direct regular contact in a “hands on” fashion, observes the activities and interactions of staff to assure that efforts are geared toward meeting the department’s established goals. Specifically, they will:
- Serve as leader in business development for department pipeline projects.
- Drive excellence in and growth of 3rd party services.
- In consultation with the Director of Development, oversee pre-development efforts and processes for affiliated Development prospects and projects.
- Manage the Department Staffing plan with the support of the Project Directors
- Determine or approve Project Team consultants.
- Determine or approve project delivery methods.
- Participate in the design development and implementation of risk assessment models and analysis.
- Develop, implement and maintain departmental organization and project controls such as cost controls, schedules, and scope management.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of all aspects of Oxford and its third-party project development including participation in the analysis of financial feasibility.
- Lead departmental client relationship efforts with key development and owner’s representative clients.
- Maintain Oxford Development Company’s relationships with industry design and construction professionals as well as labor representatives.
- Review and execute on 3rd party agreements including those with clients and Oxford as agent with project consultants.
- In collaboration with the operations team manage the structure and compensation for the department including annual incentive compensation.
- On certain selected large and complex construction projects, the position may serve as the Project Executive. This entails functioning as the senior professional responsible for direct oversight in a comprehensive manner for Oxford’s aspects of the project.
What we require:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, real estate or related field.
- A highly motivated individual with 15+ years’ experience in real estate development, project management, design or construction.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to multi-task various projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
- Interpersonal skills to guide employees as well as work with C-Suite.
